Another baseball season comes to an end for the boys. Jonathan is a senior in high school and there are a lot of exciting things ahead for him and our family. Ian continues playing piano and will be in the 7th grade. My little Lizzy is growing fast and is such a talented little girl. When your children are under 5 you feel like they will be little forever, and then they turn 7...and then 17. How time passes in a flash. We are a strong family and know that these transitions come for every family, but WOW it just doesn't seem time....

We had a wonderful family Christmas at home. Baking, games, movies, skiing, and Christmas Eve Mass have become our family holiday tradition. This year we decided to go out for Christmas Eve dinner with friends and watch 9 children take over an entire restaurant. Hoping that will also become tradition! Our children are growing up too fast and we feel very fortunate that we are able to spend so much time with them. Racing season is here! This week includes three full days on the mountain. Go Robinson racers!

It is still Autumn in Wyoming. The weather has been incredible! We finished the football season this week and did not have one snow game. Ian had a great season playing on offense and defense. Lizzy is taking three dance classes this year and once the snow falls all three kids will be racing down the mountain. We are soaking in the warmth while we have it.

The walls are down and the bar will be up soon. We opened up the kitchen to the rest of the upstairs by taking down a 3/4 wall that divided the three rooms. A very large breakfast bar will take the place of that wall! Final/finished photo soon :)

Baseball...

Jon has moved up to the Varsity baseball team to play shortstop. It has been so fun watching him excel in a sport he loves. Ian plays catcher and pitcher for his city league team. Dad is his assistant coach. Lizzy will soon follow her brothers and start her first season of t-ball.

Opening Day

Saturday was opening day for the Casper Drillers. Jon plays on the American Legion team and pitched his first game of the season. They lost to Cheyenne and could not complete the game against Gillette because of a lighting issue (too early in the season and the electricity was turned off). It is called the snowball series because conditions usually aren't great in April. We have luckily had some beautiful spring days and everything is very green around here. Here's to the start of another summer of baseball!

This is how we are feeling about the ski season ending. The city races were last weekend, the last race of the season for us. We will free ski this weekend and start the dreaded work on our property. Spring will be here soon enough and the warm sun will energize us. So much to look forward to and smile about! :)

My first baby turned 16 and I am so excited for Jon! What a great time in his life. He is a good student, all-around athlete, humble, handsome, becoming a good driver (prayers), a wonderful son! I can't wait to see how he thrives in his adult life. Love you Jon.

GS Red Lodge

We have been busy with ski racing the past month. We followed Jon to the Cody Invite in Red Lodge, MT. He had a fall during the Giant Slalom and we found out yesterday that he has a very small stress fracture on his heel. He will miss the Casper Invite this weekend :( but will hopefully be back next week to race in Pinedale. He took 1st for his team in Red Lodge and 10th overall Varsity. Giant Slalom is thrilling to watch, very fast speeds. Ian and Lizzy had their first race a few weeks ago and have been practicing on the weekends. We just need the snow to hit, we seem to be on the edge of every storm.

He is here!! Rylan Michael was born on the 3rd of December. He weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. Mary is doing awesome and recovering so fast from her c-section...amazing!!

Blake Audrey was born on November 15th. A new girl cousin in the family. Scarlett went into labor at 32 weeks and was able to stay on bed rest and in the hospital for 3 weeks. Blake and Scarlett are healthy and finally at home! We can't wait to meet her! Mary and Stephen are next....any day now.

We made it up on the mountain for family pictures before the snow hit. Ian and Jon had climbing first on their agenda, not photos. The last week has been cold and more snow in the forecast. I am hoping Fall will make return for a little bit. Baby showers, birthday parties and good family times are ahead. I am looking forward to a little rest and relaxation before ski racing starts up. Change in the air

Summer is leaving us too soon. The kids are all back to school and each morning brings a little cooler weather. We will soon harvest the pumpkins and squash and settle in for Winter. Jon is taller than me now, at 5'9" and Ian is not far behind. Lizzy started Kindergarten and loves going to school like her brothers. Mary will be having a new baby in December and her little boy will be on the tramp with the cousins next year. : )

We had to put our little Pug down a few weeks ago. I miss my little companion, he followed me everywhere, he slept in our bed, and loved our property. He had a mass on his heart, most likely cancer. He stopped eating and we had to make that hard choice to let him go.

Lizzy has been begging to get her ears pierced for over a year. I told her we would think about it when she was 5. She turned 5 and wouldn't give up. We went to the mall and there was another 5 year old getting her ears pierced. I thought this was perfect...she would see the little girl getting her ears pierced and decide it wasn't for her. Wrong, she hopped up in the seat and didn't move a muscle. She teared up at the very end, but was very brave!! I was the one that had a hard time with it, why do they have to grow up so darn fast?

Jon went to 9th grade formal, without the tuxedo or date. He joined a few friends and they went to have fun. It is very hard to see him grow up and become a young man, but we are so proud of him and the choices he makes. He is 15 now and driving us around.

Basketball and Updates

Ian just finished up his basketball season. He is hooked now and plays in the driveway every day. Jonathan has started Legion baseball and they practice every day (7 days a week). Very intense. Lizzy has been helping mom cook, starting seeds, and riding old Shady. Mom and dad are running after these kids and loving every minute of it. Last weekend we skied for the final time this season. The mountain got 3-4 feet of snow the day before and John and I made fresh tracks in a lot of powder. We had so much fun!! Ian fell at one point and was buried up to his head. We had to dig him out...he went in for hot chocolate after that run. Spring is not here yet, but we are sure ready for it!!

Jon joined the High School Ski team and we have been skiing every weekend around the state and Montana. We just found out today that he made it to State. We are headed to Jackson this weekend. Ian raced this past weekend in Casper and took 2nd. Lizzy didn't want to race, but likes to "fly" off the jumps, she is getting a little air in the first photo. The snow hasn't been the best, but that hasn't stopped us yet. BTW....Jon has to wear a racing suit at state. : ) I'm sure we will hear about that for a long time.....

We had a very quiet Christmas dinner at home with Grandma Linda and Grandpa Gary. We have been spending great family time out of the nasty weather...except on Friday. We went skiing, it was -28 with the wind chill. I was cold, but the kids didn't mind. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!!

I remember my best Christmas adventure ...it was with my Grandma.

I was just a kid, and my friend had just dropped the bomb: "There is no Santa Claus," she jeered. "Even dummies know that!" My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to her that day because I knew she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her "world-famous" cinnamon buns. They were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to be true. Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between bites, I told her everything. She was ready for me. "No Santa Claus?" she snorted .. "Ridiculous! Don't believe it! That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad!! Now, put on your coat, and let's go."

"Go?" "Go where, Grandma?" I asked. I hadn't even finished my second cinnamon bun. Where turned out to be The General S tore, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. That was a bundle in those days. "Take this money," she said, "and buy something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you in the car." Then she turned and walked out of the store. I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for. I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my friends, my neighbors, the kids at school, the people who went to my church. I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby. He was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right behind me in our grade-two class. Bobby didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never went out to recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note telling the teacher that he had a cough, but all we kids knew that Bobby didn't have a cough; he didn't have a good coat. I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement. I would buy Bobby a coat! I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it. It looked real warm, and he would like that. "Is this a Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. "Yes, ma'am," I replied shyly. "It's for Bobby." The nice lady smiled at me, as I told her about how Bobby really needed a good winter coat. I didn't get any change, but she put the coat in a bag, smiled again, and wished me a Merry Christmas. That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat (a little tag fell out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible) in Christmas paper and ribbons and wrote, "To Bobby, From Santa Claus" on it. Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy. Then she drove me over to Bobby's house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially, one of Santa's helpers. Grandma parked down the street from Bobby's house, and she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk. Then Grandma gave me a nudge. "All right, Santa Claus," she whispered, "get going." I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down on his step, pounded his door and flew back to the safety of the bushes and Grandma. Together we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobby. Sixty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby's bushes. That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were just what Grandma said they were: ridiculous. Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team. I still have the Bible, with the coat tag tucked inside: $19.95. May you always have LOVE to share, HEALTH to spare and FRIENDS that care...

Christmas Programs and Concerts

Jonathan had his Christmas concert last week. He plays the guitar this year, he has played in the Orchestra for the past five years and decided to switch over to guitar from the bass. Ian and Elizabeth had a combined school program this week. They attend St. Anthony's Tri-Parish school. Ian was one of the Three Kings and Lizzy was part of the PreK choir. They all are great performers!

Thanksgiving at home

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. Thanksgiving day was spent with Grandma and Grandpa. Linda makes the best pumpkin pie. Friday evening was a dinner at my house with Mary, Anna, Pete, Mom and family. My cousin Daniel was here too with his family. Saturday and Sunday were very restful and a great time to break out the Christmas decorations.

We have had two good snow storms already, but the Fall colors are still here. It amazes me. Looking out the window I can see all the beautiful orange and red colors but just beyond that is snow on the mountain. The horses are growing their coats and I love riding in the winter because of those fluffy coats. The kids are grabbing coats, gloves and hats in the morning, just in case. Thanksgiving is getting close, Anna will have her baby soon, and ski season will be here. Each season is filled with a new wonder and I love the change. Happy Autumn!

Ian and his Grandma Linda have birthdays a day apart. When Ian was born, Grandma was in San Diego celebrating her birthday with friends. He came a week or two late and Grandma flew out about the time I went to the hospital. Ian turned 9 and celebrated with family and friends. He had a bowling party for his school mates. He is starting flag football and is looking forward to his school camping trip next week. They spend four days on the mountain, just the teachers and students. So exciting...

We have been on the move. Fishing, on the road, family, baseball, on the road again. Between work and baseball we travel the state North to South very often. Luckily, our home base is right in the middle. The 4th was spent in Cheyenne, where fireworks are legal, and boy did the baseball team put on a show! They had the McDonald's parking lot lit up, with plenty of onlookers. No photos, because mom was in the room with sleeping Lizzy. Jonathan is off to Greeley, CO; Ian is going to Cottonwood, ID; John and Heather are heading to Jackson; and Lizzy will be spending this weekend with Aunt Mary.

We have had an unusually wet spring. Everything is very green around here. The work around our property is overwhelming. The weeds are out of control and the grass needs cut every few days. I have been very busy. School ended today, so summer is officially here. I love summer with the kids. We have a lot planned and Jonathan and I started our summer with a short round of golf. We had a lot of good laughs.

Pete called me yesterday during his lunch break to let me know that he is now the Head Coach for the Jackson Broncs basketball team. He has been such an awesome JV coach for years now and the head coach job was given to another man a few years ago, but now it is his turn. He went in to his interview with a "business plan" according to Cassie. The panel was so impressed. A few years ago he went to help a paraplegic man stack wood with Cassie and her dad. He was not real happy about spending an entire day helping out, but he didn't complain (maybe a little)...this man was on the panel that hired him. I am so proud of him, he is a wonderful man and the best uncle my kids could have!! Love you Pete. Here is a photo of him surfing in Costa Rica a few weeks ago.

My little trouble maker

Well, the owl has left the nest...We still hear them around, but we don't know what happened. They might have been a little upset with us checking them out all the time.

Can you believe this little angel had to go to the principal. Anna is her preschool teacher and had to send her down because she pushed a little boy, twice. I just laughed, probably the wrong response when Anna told me, but COME ON!! She is 3!! Anna is pregnant, by the way...my first sibling to have children. We are so excited for them.

A week ago Lizzy got into my jewelry and took my diamond tennis bracelet (a Christmas gift from John) and lost it. I have searched everywhere and no luck. She can't remember what she did with it. Hopefully it will turn up one of these days.

Here are a few photos from the past weeks. We have a new visitor in our back yard, Mrs. Owl. She is a Great Horned Owl and everyone is fascinated by her. Lizzy and Ian decorating eggs. AND..a photo of my new tub. It is peat mud, although it does look like something else. It smells like pine trees because of the pine needle extract and is so energizing. My friend calls me and the first thing she asks is "are you in the bathtub?"

Spring Break 2008

We took the kids to Jackson for spring break. Cassie and Pete rode with us from Casper. They were here for State basketball. It took us quite a long time to get everything loaded and as we are driving out the driveway Cassie yells "Spring Break 08." Everyone started laughing because we knew the next 4 hours were going to be long with three kids, four adults and 1 dog. We were definitely loaded down. We skied for 3 days, got to see Pete and Cassie's house in Alpine, the mountain sheep on the way to their house and the last night we met our friends from Jackson at a great restaurant in Hotel Terra. John and I wanted to go somewhere warm, but the kids wanted to ski. As it turned out, the three days were the warmest of the season, and we all got suntans on our faces. Great fun and spring skiing.

Obama and Clinton were both in Casper last week and John went to see Obama, I got to see Clinton. It was total excitement around town. President Clinton and Chelsea were also in Wyoming...Riverton and Laramie. We got pretty good photos. John sat a lot closer than I did.

Daddy is home!!

John has been gone for two weeks and we have missed him. We have gotten used to him traveling a lot during the week, but two full weeks is a lot for us. Lizzy missed her dad so much that she still hasn't let him out of her sight. I went to pick her up at Preschool and she yelled "I don't want you, I want my daddy!" I was really embarrassed and had to drag her out crying. Here are some photos of Lizzy and her daddy and the beautiful snow.

I didn't have a digital photo of Dad, so I borrowed one from Glenda's blog. I never know what to buy my dad for his birthday. I haven't sent him anything yet, so I would love any suggestions. This is really sad, but the only memory I have of my Dad's birthday is from a photo that was taken when I was around 4. I was sitting on his lap and he was blowing out the candles. Mary turned 25 yesterday!! Stephen planned a surprise party for her and she was surprised!!! That never happens. She knows everything all the time. They even got into a fight because he was being too "secretive." My mom came and Mary's good friend from college, Anna and Larry, my family and various friends from Casper. A good friend made the cake and used black, white and silver frosting; it was beautiful. We got some good photos of everyone's black teeth from the frosting. Mary loves living in Casper and they are buying their first home here. We are so excited for her. Stephen and Larry are cousins and they work at the family granite/tile business. Anna has the fanciest kitchen and bathroom I have seen, and now Stephen and Mary will be so busy "fancifying" their new home. She just got a new a-line haircut that really looks great, she is so beautiful. We have good times and I am fortunate to have her in Casper!

My little Jonny had a birthday on Tuesday. He is such a wonderful young man. He is into music, playing guitar, he also plays the Bass in the orchestra. He doesn't enjoy that as much as guitar, but we continue to encourage him to keep doing it. He snowboards every chance he gets. I take him up the mountain every weekend. He never has a plan to meet anyone up there, he just goes with the person that will keep up with him. His latest love is hiking "Ridge" and making his own jumps, trying them out, and hiking back up. I think the chair lift is easier, but you don't get the good powder. In a few weeks he will start spring training for baseball, he is a wonderful pitcher, we love to watch him. This boy never slows down...basketball, golf, skateboarding, he loves all sports. AND...he gets good grades!!! Jonathan is a wonderful blessing!!

The concerts, programs, parties, and the rush is coming to an end. The next few days are so cherished. I will bake cookies with my children and prepare for Christmas dinner. Jonathan and Ian will want me to take them up the mountain to ski/snowboard and Lizzy and I might join them if it isn't windy. We always have so much fun over Christmas break. With the lack of snow it is so hard to believe that Christmas will be here soon. I love Winter, I love snow. I did a little decorating this past weekend. It takes a week or so to accomplish the entire transformation. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a great break from school and the daily rush. Just a reminder...If you don't have a carbon monoxide detector, please get one. We have always had one in our home and last week it went off in the middle of the night, three nights in a row. We still don't know why, we are working on that, but it was a good reminder that they are really important to have. Two of my friends did not have one in their home; they do now.

The past 7 days have gone so fast. Halloween, parties, concerts...John's best friend was in a bicycle accident in Lincoln, NE on Sunday. The doctors are still telling him he will be a quadriplegic. He is moving his fingers, wrists, and toes. We are praying that he will recover. John is leaving tomorrow to go help out the family. His wife just went through a year of chemo and breast cancer treatment. I am hoping John can help her cope and be there for their son. Here are a few pictures of Lizzy, my new mantel, Jonathan, and neighborhood trick or treating.

Violet is our new kitten. She is Lizzy's little baby. Lizzy is the only one who can pack her around, just like a little baby. We lost our family dog, Hemingway, last month and we have all been sad about it. Violet and Lizzy make us smile.

Holly e-mailed me some time back and asked me if I had a blog. Long ago, we had a family website, but didn't update it like I should have. So here we are...I hope this will be a way to keep in touch with my family that I don't see as often as I would like.
